Then compare this to this and you start to see why some days I wake up and have trouble finding any hope for our country. Maybe that’s hyperbole but we seem to have lost our way with regards to our heroes. God, I must be getting old.
Hey you kids, get the hell off my lawn.

My lawn’s all burnt up for the summer, so I gotta camp on yours instead, bwahaha…. You’re just grouchy ’cause your party’s out of power, and the last man ‘in’ was a horror on this earth. Why take it so personally? Both sides have their strengths. You may not like where he stands on the issues atall, but isn’t a man who beat serious odds to become our first minority President a hero? I’m not about to start worshiping or think he’s right about everything (I’m a Dem, you know), but I do think he’s a pretty inspiring figure; the black kids at my local playground seem to feel so.
Or, if you need GOP-approved heroes, what of Gen. Petraeus?
What about Google’s founders and leadership, or the many working on nanotech? Where’s the shortage?

Hey, camp out all you want. Just don’t expect me to bring you s’mores or anything. Oh and the restrooms are for paying customers only. 🙂
I think my terseness caused you to miss my point which is as always, the fault of the author. I’m not saying there’s a shortage, I’m saying the heroes we worship are sad examples compared to those of a previous era. We immortalized Michael Jackson over the course of days and weeks which I find to be disturbing.
I certainly don’t think Obama is a hero because for me, heroes have to, well, DO something. He beat out an uninspiring Republican candidate in an era where people were fed up with Republican leadership. That’s not doing anything and I haven’t seen anything yet that makes me think otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great we’ve got a black President but I haven’t seen a great deal of proof yet that he’s any more competent than the last President.
This has nothing to do with a shortage of heroes and everything to do with the heroes we’re worshiping.
