Between their hard sells of extra warranty coverage that Consumer Reports says you almost never need and things like this hard sell of a firmware upgrade that you also don’t need, if you walk into Best Buy, you should just expect to get ripped off. I hate things like this because I know that people like my parents wouldn’t have a clue whether they needed something like this and would fork over the $30 which is exactly what Best Buy wants. It’s a ripoff and they know it. Sad they have to stoop to shit like this to make money.

I have worked at Best Buy for over 7 years and what you are saying about Best Buy might be true in some stores but in my store that is not the case. We offer you you the extra services products or warranties but we dont pressure you into buying them. We honor the manafactures warranties just like any other store does including but not limited to Circuit City,HH Gregg ,Walmart , Target ,Radio Shack and so on and so on. Every electronic store offers something and you know the one thing that should always come first is customer service and how you are treated like in my store

I have seen were the extra SERVICE PLAN (it is not a warranty) has been valuable but my main issue with the PSP (Product Service Plan) is that some Best Buy sales reps have represented it as covering everything. No. Not everything. Hardware issues only. No virus. No batteries in laptops after MFG warranty ends. Etc etc.
How many times do I have to look at the crestfallen faces of Best Buy customers that feel ripped off because the PSP does NOT cover “everything”?
