This is a neat interactive map that shows the progression of obesity across time in America on a state-by-state basis. Here in Texas, 1 in 4 have a BMI of over 30. Granted, the BMI is not the best indicator of obesity (I’m pretty healthy but my BMI probably puts me at overweight, just because I’m short and stocky) but it’s hard to look around you on a regular basis and not see that we’re getting fatter.
Interestingly, the progression always seems to start in the South and Midwest before moving outwards (though Alaska got to 25% pretty quickly). Must be all that good Southern cooking. 😉
